ロル・クレーム、トレヴァー・ホーン、クリス・ブレイド、スティーヴ・リプソン、アッシュ・ソーンの5人により結成されたバンド、ザ・プロデューサーズのデビューシングル。"Barking Up The Right Tree"ではロル・クレームが、"Freeway"ではクリス・ブレイドがリード・ヴォーカルを担当している。"Barking Up The Right Tree"のプロモーション･ビデオもロルが、息子のレイロと共同監督している。
"Barking Up The Right Tree"はドラマーのソーンが考えたギター・リフを元にロルが作詞、"Freeway"はロルとホーンがアメリカ・カリフォルニアのサンフェルナンド・バレーをドライブした際の体験を元に作曲された。この曲のリフはホットレッグス時代にロルが考案したもので、ずっと気に入っていたので再利用したそうだ。
妻のジル・シンクレアが2006年に不慮事故のため昏睡状態になったことで、落ち込んでいるホーンを励ますために、リプソンがバンド結成を提案。一方で以前からロルとホーンは小さなクラブで演奏したいと語り合ってたそうだ。ブレイドとソーンはリプソンからの紹介。バンドは2006年11月28日にロンドン・カムデンのクラブ"Barfly"でデビュー・ライブを行い、自分たちのヒット曲やビートルズ、スペンサー・デイビス・グループらのカバーを演奏した。以降断続的にクラブで小規模ライブを行い、アルバム製作にも着手する。"Studio1"と名付けられたそのアルバムは、当初の発売スケジュールでは完成せず、その後ブレイドが脱退したことにより、一旦中断されることとなってしまう。
同時期にホーンはアメリカ映画「パーティー・ナイトはダンステリア（Take Me Home Tonight）」のスコアを担当。演奏はホーン、ロル、リプソン、ソーンのほか、サーム・スタジオのスタジオ・ミュージシャンらがレコーディングしている。この映画もしばらく公開されず、2011年3月になってようやく公開された。サントラも発売されたが、劇中に流れる80年代のヒット曲が収録されるに留まり、ホーンのスコアは未収録。
2012年に4人組のまま、「ザ」がとれて「プロデューサーズ」として再活動。"Studio1"のマテリアルを練り直したアルバム"Made In Basing Street"が6月に発売された。この2曲も再ミックスされ収録されている。
